QUALIFYING INFORMATION

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

POLICIES, PROCEDURES, & GUIDELINES:

  • Prior to participating, participants must review the SCGA’s Policies & Procedures.
  • The SCGA's mask policy follows in accordance with the CDC and the California Department of Public Health. This is subject to change due to any local guidelines or site protocols. Click here to learn more.

 

FORMAT:

  • All players will participate in a 36-hole stroke-play qualifier.
  • Qualifiers will advance to the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship August 9 – 15 at Oakmont CC in Oakmont, PA
  • The final number of qualifying spots at each site will be available from the Committee on the day of play.
  • In the event of a tie for the last qualifying place or an alternate’s position, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff immediately following the conclusion of regular play.

 

STARTING TIMES & PAIRINGS:

  • Starting times and pairings will be emailed to players and posted online at scga.org/tournaments/champ-cal/usga-qualifiers one week in advance of the qualifier.
  • There will not be a player registration process on the morning of the qualifier.
  • Lead groups should plan to be at their assigned tee 10 minutes in advance of their starting time. Subsequent groups are encouraged to arrive once the preceding group has teed off. Players arriving late will be penalized under Rule 5.3a of the Rules of Golf. For example, the 9:00 a.m. starting time is defined as 9:00:00, and players arriving after that time are considered late.

   

DRIVING RANGE:

  • The driving range at each site will be available one hour prior to the first starting time. Range balls will be provided.

 

TEES & YARDAGES:

  • Play at all sites will be from the USGA tee markers.
  • Refer to the Yardage Information section on the Event Portal for hole-by-hole yardages.

 

PRACTICE ROUNDS:

  • Practice rounds are a privilege, not a right. These opportunities are provided at the sole discretion of the host qualifying facility. Players are guests and must follow all club policies and guidelines regarding practice rounds.
  • Player behavior during practice rounds will be subject to the SCGA Code of Conduct.

 

 

QUALIFYING SITE-SPECIFIC INFORMATION

 

Bakersfield CC (Monday, July 5):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (661) 871-4000. Regular rates apply. All rounds are based on availability.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will be open at 7 a.m. Credit Card is the only form of payment accepted at this time.

 

Annandale GC (Monday, July 12):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the Golf Shop at (626) 796-6125. Rounds can be scheduled anytime Tues. – Thurs. after 1 p.m., and Fri-Sun after 2 p.m. Practice round rate: $70/walking, $92/cart. Players only are permitted unless player is 17 or under, in which case they may only bring one parent or guardian.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will be open at 7 a.m. Credit Card is the only form of payment accepted at this time.

 

Crystalaire CC (Tuesday, July 13):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (661) 944-2111. Practice rounds will be available based on availability. Mon. after 7:15 a.m., Tues. – Fri. after 10 a.m. & Sat. – Sun. after 11 a.m. Practice round rates: Weekdays: $50/walking or $70/riding. Weekends: $60/walking or $80/riding.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar/restaurant will open at 7 a.m. Cash or major credit cards are accepted.

 

Goose Creek GC (Tuesday, July 13):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (951) 735-3982 or book online at goosecreekgc.com. Regular rates apply.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The Grill will be available by 6 a.m. Cash and major credit cards will be accepted for all purchases.

 

Soule Park GC (Thursday, July 15):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (805) 646-5633 or book online at souleparkgc.com. Regular rates apply.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will open at 6:30 a.m. (patio dining only). Cash or major credit cards will be accepted.

 

Mission Viejo CC (Monday, July 18):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (949) 582-1550. Rounds are available Tues. – Thurs. based on availability and Fri. – Sun. based on availability (limited availability in afternoon). Practice round rates: $100/walking or $117/cart.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will open at 7 a.m. Credit Card is the only form of payment accepted at this time.

 

Valencia CC (Monday, July 18):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the Golf Shop at (661) 254-4401. Rounds must be scheduled two days in advance based on availability Wed. – Thurs. after 12 p.m. or Fri. – Sun. after 3 p.m. Practice round rates: Wed. – Thurs. $55/walking, $75/cart; Fri. – Sun. $75/walking, $95/cart. Players only are permitted unless player is 17 or under, in which case they may only bring one parent or guardian.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will open at 7 a.m. Credit Card is the only form of payment accepted at this time.

 

Bernardo Heights CC (Monday, July 19):

  • Practice Rounds: Call the golf shop at (858) 487-3440. Practice rounds will be granted based on availability on Mon. – Fri. after 1 p.m. Practice round rates: $80/walking or $100/riding.
  • Food Service & Purchases: The snack bar will open at 7 a.m. Cash or major credit cards will be accepted.

 

 

RULES OF PLAY

 

RULES OF PLAY:

  • The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA and The R&A Rules Limited govern play.
  • Local Rules and Terms of the Competition can be found on the USGA Hard Card and the Notice to Players that will be emailed to players the day prior to the qualifier and distributed on-site.
  • Distance-Measure Devices: Permitted during qualifying rounds.
  • One Ball Rule: During an entire round, each ball at which the player makes a stroke must be the same brand and model as found in a single entry on the current List of Conforming Balls. Model Local Rule G-4.
  • Groove and Punch Mark Specifications: Local Rule as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect, except as modified by the applicable championship Entry Application. Model Local Rule G-2.
  • Prohibiting Use of Certain Types of Shoes: During a round, a player must not wear shoes with spikes of any design that are entirely or partially made of metal, if such metal may come into contact with the course. Model Local Rule G-7.

GOLF CARTS & PULL/PUSH CARTS:

  • During a round, a player must not ride on any form of motorized transportation except as authorized or later approved by the Committee. Model Local Rule G-6.
  • Players seeking to use a golf cart due to a medical or ADA-related reason must contact the USGA in advance of the qualifier.
  • Pull or push carts (including motorized pull or push carts) are allowed.

 

CADDIES & SPECTATORS:

  • Players may provide their own caddie.
  • Spectators are permitted but are not allowed in carts. Spectators must adhere to all policies set forth by the facility.

 

DRESS CODE:

Appropriate golf attire must be worn, including adhering to any club-specific policies.
